Dear Client:

Congratulations! Your work permit has been approved! 🎉

This work permit (“Employment Authorization Document” – EAD) is a card that has your picture on it, and it says that you are authorized to work in the United States. It will also have the dates for how long your work permit is valid for.

With your EAD, you will be able to get a Social Security Number. Presumably, USCIS is working alongside the Social Security Administration in order to get that number sent to you directly without you having to do anything. In practice, however, it doesn’t always work out this way. If you don’t receive your Social Security Card in the next two (2) weeks, take your EAD with you to a Social Security Administration office, and you will be able to get it.

Once you have both your EAD and Social Security Card, you will be able to apply for a Driver’s License.

Please be aware of your EAD’s expiration date, and give your Legal Team a call at least 6-8 months before it is set to expire, so that we can discuss with you whether it is time to renew your work permit, and if you are eligible to do so.

Please note that you may need to pay new attorney fees and USCIS filing fees in order to renew your work permit. We will also need updated passport style photos to submit along with your renewal application.

Depending on what type of case you have, you may also be receiving Advance Parole with your work permit. You will be able to tell if this is the case as your EAD will either say: “Not Valid for Reentry to the U.S.” OR “Serves as I-512 Advance Parole.”

If you are authorized to travel, you can use your EAD to make trips abroad. However, we ask that you try to limit your trips abroad to only emergencies, to be on the safe side. You will also want to check the visa requirements and travel restrictions for any country you plan to visit.

Please also keep in mind that if you are traveling abroad, and we receive an interview date for you, or something else arises in your case, you may have to cut your trip short. Please also let your Legal Team know before you make any trips abroad so that we can make sure that everything is good to go and know where to reach you if needed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Client Care Specialist. Your Legal Team is readily available to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Thank you for your trust and confidence.

Our best,
