Art is one of the things in life that must be shared with others. Art For The People Gallery was built on this principle. A chic and small art gallery located at 1711 S. Street, Austin, Texas, it caters to all artists in the Austin area, be they experienced and known or just starting out.
They feature all sorts of creative products including original art of any medium, jewelry, cards, print, home products and decorations, and even food. They also carry written materials. They have an open invitation for artists to submit their work for exhibitions. Acceptance is subject to entry guidelines. All media are accepted, be they visual or functional art. They accept paintings, photos, prints, mixed media, fiber, sculpture, ceramics, and many more.
Applications are sent in through email by sending in photos of the artwork and a photo of the artist. Submissions have no prescribed maximum size but the minimum size is 12”x12”, unframed. For canvas artwork, items less than 1.5” in depth have to be framed.
The gallery gets 50% of the retail price which covers exposure, advertising, and customer access to their online store where the artwork will also be sold. Each artist must submit a minimum of three pieces but there is no maximum limit.
The gallery features different pieces per month and serves a community of over 100 artists from Austin alone. Their main mission is “to provide a space that contributes to the artists’ livelihoods and humanity’s need and love for art.” They basically facilitate the sales and exposure of local artists, helping them hone their talents while providing a launchpad for these artists’ business.
Walk-in customers are welcome during open hours which are 12pm to 4pm on Wednesdays, 12pm to 5pm on Thursdays to Sundays. Their online store is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
